PLOT
Ten years later, the focus of the narrative changes to Ganta Igarashi, a seemingly common 9th grader attending a middle school in Nagano Prefecture. Ganta has led a typical life despite being an escapee and survivor of the massive earthquake. This all changes when a weird figure wearing crimson armor and a bloody mask flies through his classroom windows. The "Red Man," who is grinning maniacally, massacres Ganta's entire class. The "Red Man" decides not to kill Ganta but instead inserts a red crystal shard into his chest. A few days after the massacre, Ganta is tried as a suspect. He receives a death sentence at Deadman Wonderland, a jail that also serves as a theme park, where the warden, Tsunenaga Tamaki, pretended to be Ganta's attorney while secretly being in charge of fabricating the evidence against him.
